Young at heart 100-year-old chef cooks for Derbyshire care home

A chef who has just turned 100 made burgers for the residents of Holmewood Care Home, Derbyshire, to celebrate National Burger Day.

Nancy Sallis, a fellow resident, put on her apron and chef’s hat and start turning mince beef into delicious patties for the other residents to enjoy.

Ms Sallis was joined by other residents, Hazel White, Margaret Shatwell and Thelma Scarborough to make burgers for dinner at the care home.

Kathleen Richardson, manager at Holmewood Care Home, said: “Our residents were very eager to show off their skills. They were just so engrossed with the mixing of ingredients and really put their hearts into it, while reminiscing about cooking for their loved ones.

“They were so proud of the burgers that they kept informing other residents they made them.”

The evening chefs mixed the minced beef with onions, salt and pepper by hand before forming them into burgers and serving them in buns with a selection of sauces.
