Wish you were here: Postcards brighten up Lancashire care home residents’ days

Lancashire County Council are urging tourist from Lancashire to send postcards to care home residents across the county.

Social care bosses from the council believe a simple hello and a little information about their day or travels can brighten a residents’ day as it often can spark their memories of past holidays and launch conversations between residents.

Sending postcards is all apart of Lancashire County Council’s initiative ‘Postcards for Kindness’ – 83 care homes have currently signed up to the scheme, including council-run homes.

Councillor Graham Gooch, Lancashire County Council adult services boss, said: “By taking a few minutes to send a postcard telling someone about your holiday or day out, you could make a real difference to their life.

It may bring back happy memories or encourage them to talk to others and research shows this has many health benefits, especially for people living with dementia. Tackling loneliness and isolation among older people is a key health issue. Postcards for Kindness is a key part of our plans.”
