Worthing residential home receives ‘requires improvement’ by health watchdog

Larkswood , Worthing, has received a ‘requires improvement’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in their safe, effective, and well-led categories.

Larkswood is a residential home for individuals who require nursing or personal care and care for people for adults over 65.

In an unannounced inspection, CQC inspectors found the care provider had made changes to the home environment to consider the needs of residents that had dementia.

The CQC report said the home now has a range of personalised activities that people had helped choose on offer each day. Inspectors found staff had a good awareness of people’s capacity and could give examples of how they put that it into practice when supporting certain residents.

The report said the service was not always safe and medicines were not always managed safely or properly. There was also a note of resident’s assessments lacked detail about the support they needed.

Inspectors said everyone they spoke with said they felt safe and risk assessments were in place. The report said staff were caring with one person saying: “They are always kind and helpful,” with another saying: “The staff are very nice and I get on well with all of them.”

At the time of inspection, there were 17 people living at the home.
