Wish comes true for Hindley care home resident

A 91-year-old resident at a care home in Hindley, Wigan, Greater Manchester has relived a memory from her younger years.

Doris Grant lives at Carrington Court Care Home and told her carers about her trips to the beach and how she enjoyed going there and feeling the sand between her toes.

Ms Grant visited Southport, where colleagues took her to the beach – she was overwhelmed with happiness and even got a bag of sand for a souvenir.

Cllr Keith Cunliffe, Wigan council deputy leader and cabinet member for adult and social care, said: “This is a brilliant example of what a positive impact connecting people to the things they love has. It’s great to see care homes making people’s wishes come true.”

Carrington Court Care Home was awarded a ‘good’ rating by the Care Quality Commission and had 48 residents living there at the time of inspection.
