Suffolk residents winning following visit from giant African tortoise

Residents at a care home in Suffolk got up close and personal when they were visited by a giant African tortoise.

Cedrus House, Stowmarket, invited Dexter to the home so he could interact with the residents – his visit was inspired when one resident, Jean Brown, met him at the local carnival.

The resident was a judge at the pet show and fell in love with Dexter, leading the staff team at the home to approach Dexter’s owners.

Michelle Webster, home manager at Cedrus House, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents, so it was great to have Dexter and his family visit us.

His visit proved to be a real success to us and you could see from all the residents’ reactions just how much they enjoyed interacting with Dexter – he’s certainly a guest we’ll be welcoming back.”

Cedrus House is home to 63 residents and specialise in nursing or personal care for those living with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities.
