To celebrate India’s 71st anniversary of independent rule, residents at Camelot House and Lodge, Wellington, Somerset, were treated to a traditional Indian dance, costume, food and music.
India’s Independence Day is 15 August, which is an annual national holiday in India to commemorate the nation’s independence from the UK. The Independence Day is now a regular fixture for Camelot House and Lodge.
Richard Dempslake, activities co-ordinator, said: “Our residents living with dementia always thoroughly enjoy it when we organise a day with an international theme. Some of them have said it’s like going on a day’s foreign holiday.
“Since we are lucky enough to have staff of Indian descent at Camelot House an Lodge, we are able to provide and authentic international experience for them.”
Residents enjoyed the display of traditional Indian dancing, which was led by Avtar Panesar.
Mr Panesar said: “My wife and I have been doing Indian dance classes for about two years because we wanted to remain in contact with my culture and spread the joy of Indian dance.”
