Dorset home saving lives one fundraiser at a time

The staff team from Fairfield House care home in Lyme Regis, West Dorset, have raised a record amount of money while fundraising for the RNLI at the Melplash Show.

The team fundraise every year for a different charity and this year it was the RNLI – where volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour rescue service throughout the UK and Ireland. The RNLI also trains and places seasonal lifeguards on Lyme Regis beach.

April Robinson, worker at Fairfield House, said: “I’m delighted with the money raised for the RNLI Lyme Regis Lifeboats, and am very proud to announce the total proceeds raised £1,150 for this worthy cause.”

The team at Fairfield House raised almost £700 last year for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, and this year that figure has doubled.

“The generosity of the local community in supporting the RNLI this year has been amazing. Our staff too gave their time freely and with such enthusiasm which in turn created our most successful fundraising event so far,” said Carol Ashby, home manager of Fairfield House.

The Lifeboats operation manager, Nick Marks, was present with Lyme Regis RNLI volunteer when they accepted the cheque on behalf of the branch. Mr Marks said they were delighted the receive the donation from Fairfield House and will ensure the donation is spent wisely.
