Dorset care home is declared ‘outstanding’ by health watchdog

A care home in Dorset is celebrating after being rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Colten Care’s Canford Chase in Poole, is now ranked in the top three per cent of care homes in England following a two-day unannounced inspection.

The care home hosted a celebratory party at the home and Colten Care’s chief executive, Mark Aitchison, said: “It’s a tribute to the pride, passion, commitment and dedication of our team.

“There have been more than 25,000 inspections by the CQC and only three per cent are ‘outstanding’.

“Colten Care has 20 homes with four rated ‘outstanding’ – 20 per cent of our homes – and the other 16 are ‘good’. That’s a truly exceptional statistic by any measure.”

The CQC report said: “Care was planned and delivered in line with current good practice and standards. Standards of nursing care were very high.”

Charlotte Wilson, home manager, said: “I have never worked anywhere with such a fabulous team as we have here at Canford Chase.

“Our residents are at the heart of everything we do and our staff are dedicated to delivering the highest level of care. It is wonderful for that to be recognised by the CQC.”
