Care UK team shortlisted for a national award

Care UK’s Colchester-based facilities management team have reached the finals of the British Institute of Facilities Management Award (BIFM). The team of 13 have been shortlisted in the category for ‘Impact on organisational performance’ for its work with 118 care homes that stretch from Aberdeen to Poole, Dorset.

Kevin Orme, Care UK’s head of facilities management, said: “Our believe that it is paramount that we ensure each of our care homes is exactly that – a home. The best way we can support that is to help the home managers concentrate on care while we manage the facilities.”

The team created an in-house property services helpdesk and facilities management team, with the helpdesk manned by Care UK colleagued during normal working hours. “Care UK provides first class residential care to more than 8,000 residents and our team decided the best way to provide the same high level of service was to create a flexible and robust facilities management function,” said Mr Orme.

The new system has led to significant efficiency savings, and home managers are delighted with the improvement in service. Mr Orme said the team are over the moon at being selected as a finalist and is incredibly proud of his team.

They are shortlisted alongside well-known companies such as Skanska and CBRE. The winner will be announced at the BIFM Awards ceremony on 15 October at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
