Care home in Wales invites elderly people facing Christmas Day alone to join them

A care home in Hay-on-Wye has partnered with Community Christmas to throw open its doors to elderly people who are facing Christmas Day alone this year.

Community Christmas is a charity that believes no elderly person in the UK should be alone on Christmas Day unless they want to be, and Cartref Bupa Care Home has partnered with them to help reduce isolation amongst local elderly people at a time of year when they can feel particularly lonely.

Sylvia Illingsworth, home manager at Cartref, said: “We know loneliness is a growing issue for elderly people – at Christmas and all year round.

“It’s great that we are in a position to support Community Christmas by opening our doors on Christmas Day to offer our elderly community somewhere they can enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner and some festive fun in the company of others. I know our residents are look forward to welcoming some new faces to the table on Christmas Day.”

Cartref Care Home specialises in residential, residential dementia and short stay and is open to everyone in the local area seeking a friendly and personal care home environment.
