Bradford care home branded ‘inadequate’ now celebrating ‘outstanding’

Bradford care home rises from the ashes

An Anchor Trust care home, Bradford, was placed in ‘special measures’ in 2016 has now been rated ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Mill View has become Anchor’s fifth ‘outstanding’ care service following an inspection in April.

The home accommodates up to 50 residents and was rated ‘requires improvement’ on a previous inspection in November 2016, after the current manager – Tee Tatum – was appointed.

Mr Tatum has helped take the home on a long journey, which has now been hailed as a success as they receive CQC’s highest rating.

He said: “We are proud of the care we provide. Our journey has been challenging but we have achieved everything: the team, families, residents and the community.

“The changes have been driven by my team’s passion to create a wonderful home environment with the residents – who are the people that matter the most – deciding every step of the way what we build next.”

The care home manager installed a pub, 1950s diner, local shop, cinema room, hair salon and a landscaped garden for the residents and their families to enjoy.

Debbie Westhead, deputy chief inspector of adult social care, said Mill View is a fantastic story of improvement.

She added: “After initially having concerns and later entering the service into special measures, we returned and found improvement and now find an ‘outstanding’ service.

“Clearly this improvement could not have happened without strong leadership and committed care staff.

“We found the care to be highly personalised, staff really listened to people’s needs and desires. The service was passionate about making a positive difference to people’s lives.”
