‘Around the world in 70 days:’ Northamptonshire care home does good for charity

Residents, family members and staff at a Daventry, Northamptonshire, specialist care home participated in a nationwide effort to ‘travel around the world’ and raised £5,000 for charity in the process.

Badby Park, part of Elysium, had 56 participants in the team and organised a walk around the ground of their homes as their contribution to the company target of 24,901 miles in 70 days. The miles are the equivalent distance of the circumference of the earth.

Badby Park is a specialist care which provides rehabilitation, long term care, respite and palliative care for people with progressive neurological illnesses, acquired brain injuries and spinal injuries.

Lesley Collins, home manager, said: “It’s wonderful to see so many people take part. We are so fortunate that we have such beautiful grounds to hold this event in and it was great to see all our staff, residents and family members being able to enjoy them together.

Our brilliant team members face daily pressures that demand a huge amount of them, as a result of tension and stress can build up over time.”

The Badby Park team managed to clock up 30.2 miles around the footpaths and driveway of the 50-acre site. The group hope to raise more than £5,000 for Young Minds, Carers UK, CALM and The Brain Charity.
