Bramley care home offers chance to become a Dementia Friend

A care home in Bramley invited people to be trained up to become a Dementia Friend.

Cherry Blossom care home welcomed guests earlier this month to learn what it’s like to live with dementia and turn that understanding into action.

Dementia Champions at Cherry Blossom is free and open to anyone of any age, the home will be able to teach the group about the small ways we all can help those living with dementia.

Dementia Friends information sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, who are trained and supported by the Alzheimer’s Society.

The programme has been named as the biggest initiative in the UK with the aim of changing people’s perceptions and understanding of dementia.

Gigi Despoja, general manager at Cherry Blossom, said: “We’re really looking forward to making more Dementia Friend’s in our local community. The condition itself can be quite lonely and frightening, and the more understanding we have the better.

“Our team here at Cherry Blossom are always available to provide support and advice about care to anyone who needs it. If anyone is unable to make it on the day but would like to pop in for a tour and a cup of tea, our doors are always open.”
